Practical Cooperation

Kickstart Your Career with a Blend of Studies and Practical Experience

Study with Practical Cooperation

Do you want a hands-on education, earn money while studying, and boost your career prospects with initial practical experience in a company within your industry? Then start your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES with practical cooperation!

We offer a unique combination of theory and practice: A study with practical cooperation provides you with optimal opportunities to get to know a company intensively during study-accompanying practical phases and to practically apply and deepen your academic knowledge there.

What makes our program special?

Your Advantages

  • Companies tailored for you: We recruit companies in the region that are willing to create or offer positions specifically for our students—for the entire duration of your studies.
  • Optimized schedule: Our schedule, especially in the first year, is designed with block courses and longer semesters, allowing you to balance study, practical phases, and regular work in the company without significant time management challenges—a real advantage over other side jobs!
  • Your benefits in focus: With our practical cooperation, you not only gain solid theoretical knowledge but can also directly apply it in practice, preparing you well for the job market and allowing you to make valuable professional contacts.

What you should know:

Requirements

  • Self-responsible application: You must apply for a practical position directly with the companies. They decide on the allocation of positions. There is no guarantee or automatic allocation. Your commitment and initiative are required!

  • Participation requirement: Good German language skills are necessary – for a successful application, we recommend a language certificate at Level C1.

Study with Practical Cooperation

In Detail:

Our program is similar to a dual study program but without the IHK certificate. This means:

  • Employment Contract: Companies offer Bachelor’s or Master’s students a work contract for the duration of their studies.
  • Full Enrollment: Students are enrolled in the DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES program and study alongside peers without practical cooperation.
  • Practical Phases: Students undergo practical phases in companies with various possible models, agreed upon individually with the company, such as
    • during lecture-free periods,
    • selected workdays during lecture periods,
    • or a full-time practical semester.
  • Part-Time Study: Allows for more working time in the company.
  • Contents: Tasks and work contents are set by the company.
  • Study Progress: Regular study progress may change slightly based on practical phases, but curriculum contents remain unchanged. Interdisciplinary digitalization projects are mandatory.
  • Thesis: The Bachelor’s degree includes a practical project and thesis, with only the practical project involving the company. The Master's thesis topics can be set with the company.

Process of the Study with Practical Cooperation

Summary

Students in the DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES program with practical cooperation are enrolled in the regular study program AND have an employment contract with a company.

The regular study progression in both the B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs remains generally the same but may include minor changes:

  • A leave of absence semester can be spent as a full-time practical semester in the company, possibly even abroad.
  • The study can be done part-time to allow for more work time in the company.
